The United States education system is divided into levels called "grades," and students complete each grade in one year in order to move up to the next grade:

Preschool

Kindergarten

Elementary: 1st through 6th grade

Middle: 7th through 8th grade

High: 9th through 12th grade

College: freshman → sophomore → junior → senior
